O Son of Life, fill the earth of my body and my soul with Thine own life, that I may have wherewith to appear among the living angels.
Without Thy life I shall not be able to breathe the air that angels breathe, nor eat the bread that angels eat. And I shall again be driven out beyond the gates of the Kingdom of Heaven, before which even now I lie like a paralytic.
The world lured me to its bread, and buried my soul in stones. It lured me to fish, and buried my heart in stones.
It lured me to light, and clothed my mind in darkness.
I do not hate the poor man, but the world has grown hateful to me, for like a pauper it makes itself out to be rich. Nor do I hate the selfish man, but the world has grown hateful to me, for like a selfish man it makes itself out to be generous. Nor do I hate the senseless man, but the world has grown hateful to me, for like a senseless man it makes itself out to be wise. Nor do I hate the sick man, but the world has grown hateful to me, for like a consumptive it deliberately poisons the water of the healthy. The deceiver and the dissembler I hate, O Lord, who heaped earth over my life while speaking to me all the while of heaven.
There was a rich merchant, and he died, and his shop was plundered by his neighbors, and it stood empty still, with the name of the dead man above the door and the listings of precious wares in the shop.
Just like this shop am I, I said to myself in shame. I still bear the name of life, but my life has all been plundered by my neighbors.
O Son of God, O Son of Life, fill my earth with life.
First cast the stones out of my soul, and feed it with true bread. And cleanse my heart of serpents, and fill it with Thyself. And drive the darkness out of my mind, and fill it with the light of heaven.
For truly I shall not come to life, if my soul alone comes to life while my heart remains filled with mortal desires. Nor shall I be resurrected, O Lord, in Thy kingdom, if my heart alone be cleansed while my mind remains still filled with darkness.
Truly, until all three springs within me run clear, there will be no life for my life. If one runs clear, the other two will muddy it.
If two run clear, the third will suffice to muddy the first two. Each of these three springs within me is either the poisoner or the savior of the others.
O Son of Life, fill my earth with life. Thou art my wisdom, for in Thee is not only the divine mind, but also divine virginity and divine holiness. For hadst Thou not been born of divine virginity and divine holiness, Thou wouldst not be wisdom but limited worldly knowledge and skill.
O Son of God, Thou art the only nourishing bread of my life. I pray to Thee, turn not Thy face from me, a sinner. Thou art the only living water that can give drink to the thirsty desert of my life.
I pray to Thee, turn not Thy face from me, a sinner. Thou art the only wholesome air that can heal the paralysis of my life.
I pray to Thee, turn not Thy face from me, a sinner. But have mercy on me and save me!
