Do you ask me about the way, O weary runners?
Toward what are you racing, O sons of men? If you knew toward what you are going, you would know the way as well.
Countless are your goals, and therefore countless are your ways.
You collide with one another and curse one another, because your ways collide.
Though you be as many as the grass of the earth, you will not collide, if you have one goal and one way. And your mouths will be dried of cursing.
Those who seek life and truth have one goal and one way. The goal shows them the way, as the sun shows itself by its light. Truly, whoever hides from the sun will lose both goal and way, and will fling himself in vain through the darkness, this way and that.
Do not set out upon the ways of your own thoughts, for they lead you from one to another, and outside themselves they know neither goal nor way.
Do not trust your soul as long as it points you to the flesh in which it has clothed itself, as though to a goal and a way. Has clothing ever yet led anyone along the way?
The way to the kingdom of blessedness is not found, nor shown, nor cut through. It is born in the soul when life and truth are born within it. If life and truth are born in your soul, rejoice and be glad, for the way too is born.
Just as life cannot be separated from truth, so neither can the way be separated from life and truth.
Until all three are revealed, not one is revealed.
Do not place your hope in the morrow, that it may cast a stronger light upon your crooked way. For the morrow is only a new bend in your way, and a new riddle.
Do not place hope in days, for days are the hand-planted garden of your imagination. But place all your hope in the Day which, when it dawns, does not darken.
Lord, my Lord; my Three-Sunned Divinity, who will reach Thee?
The ways of men are like a net, over which runners run the whole day long, and in the evening find themselves in the same place. The netted ways of men bewilder me, and I ask myself, who will reach the resting place of my Lord?
Whoever comes to know me as the goal of his going, to him I shall be the way to my courts.
Lord, my Lord, my Three-Sunned Divinity, who will dare to enter into Thy light?
Whoever has grown accustomed to beholding my light within himself, he will dare to enter into my light. And he will not be scorched.
O soul, my soul, my three-nighted darkness, when will you take off your mask and be turned into three-sunned day?
Save yourself while the divine ray burns above you. For when it departs from you, you will vanish, as vanished, behold, even the dancing moon at the bottom of the lake.
