Thy visitation, O my Strength, brings strength to every creature.
As into empty lamps Thou pourest oil into each of them, and they begin to burn.
Blessed is he who receives Thee into his emptiness; he shall be filled, and he shall burn.
When there is no oil, then the wick burns with smoke and a foul odor.
Men burned even before Thy visitation, but it was not Thou who burned but the wick, with smoke and a foul odor.
When Thou camest to visit the earth, Thou didst fill all the lamps with oil, and the oil began to burn, without smoke and foul odor.
But the unlearned see not the difference, and say: there was burning before, and there is burning now.
The unlearned see not the difference between the burning of an empty lamp and the burning of a full lamp.
O unlearned ones, when the earth burns with its own fire, it is the wick that burns and not the oil, and the burning is with smoke and a foul odor.
When earthen vessels are filled with heavenly oil, then the oil burns, and the burning is with flame and light, but without smoke and foul odor.
Behold, Thou art not like ordinary visitors, who come to take. Thou camest not to come and go like ordinary visitors, nor to come and take, but Thou camest to leave. Verily, to fill, and to leave all things full!
Every thing is filled with power and strength, O Lord overflowing with good things, when Thou comest to visit.
Water, which could only wash the body, received the power to baptize the soul. In Thy name, O Lord!
Oil, which could only glisten on a healthy face, received the power to give vigor to the sick. In Thy name, O Lord!
Bread, which could only heap ash upon ash in man, received the power to feed life with Thy life. In Thy name, O Lord!
The springs have filled with snow, and the grasses of the field have swelled with life. In Thy name, O Lord!
Words have become a remedy, and signs have become a defense. In Thy name, O Lord!
The dead began to take upon themselves the infirmities of the living, and the living began to converse with the dead as with the living. In Thy name, O Lord!
Graves, from which only stench flowed, began to pour forth myrrh, and the dens of beasts became places of repentance. In Thy name, O Lord!
Before Thy visitation, O Lord, all was smokier than a burning wick, and all more feeble than a spider's weaving.
Will the unlearned open their eyes and see the difference? For all the unlearned I kneel and pray before Thee, O Lord Almighty: open their eyes, that they may see the difference.
That they may see the difference and open their empty lamps, that Thou mayest fill them.
That they may not eternally choke in smoke and foul odor, O Heavenly Oil of my lamp.
For all the unlearned I kneel and pray before Thee, O Holy Spirit, Life-Creating. Breathe like a tempest and shake the soul of the unlearned, that they may awaken and feel the hour of Thy visitation.
That they may repent, and together with me kneel and cry out: how new the earth becomes, when Thou visitest it. O Majestic and Dread God!
